Awards Programs
There are many programs that recognise and award Volunteers and people in the community for their achievements and support in various areas. Here are details of some of those programs.
The Australian Honours System is aimed at recognising the outstanding achievements of extraordinary Australians. It rewards outstanding service to the community, exceptional acts of bravery, and notable service in the armed forces, emergency services and for public service. The Order of Australia is the highest means of recognition available to Australians.
The Australian Honours System is administered by the Australian Honours Secretariat, the office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General.

International Volunteer Day was started by the United Nations in 1985. It is a day when the world recognises the contributions that volunteers make in the community and thank them for their efforts. It is not an awards program, but rather a day when individual organisations and communities can celebrate and show their appreciation for their volunteers.
International Volunteer Day is held annually on December 5.

The annual Premier's Awards for Queensland Seniors provides acknowledgement for the role older people play in the community and recognises their invaluable volunteer contributions. Winners of the awards are recognised in a special ceremony at Parliament House.
Nominations close every year in June.

The Young Achievers Awards are held every year to acknowledge, reward and promote the positive achievements and contributions of young people in the community. The awards are open to anyone between 14 and 26 years of age and are held in the Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.
There are seven different categories with the winner of each category receiving a trophy and a $2,000 savings account from Heritage Building Society. The categories are:The winners of the Young Achievers Awards also become finalists for Young Australian of the Year. The winner of that title receives an additional $2,000 and a trophy.
The Young Achievers Awards are temporarily unavailable for 2008.

To recognise and reward outstanding volunteer efforts, the annual Queensland Young Volunteer Awards give eight awards of $2,000 to Queenslanders 12-25 years of age.
Community leaders and community organisations are encouraged to nominate a young person who they believe deserves recognition for their voluntary contributions to Queensland.

The Regional Arts Australia Volunteer Awards are aimed at recognising, rewarding and encouraging regionally-based artists and cultural volunteers who have made a substantial contribution to the arts in regional communities in Australia.
