Upper Ross Community Volunteer Challenge

How to Win the Challenge
Groups – will be judged on the number of volunteer hours they complete over the 6 months of the challenge.
Individuals – will be judged on barriers they have overcome to participate, the service they are providing, commitment to volunteering and hours logged.
A winners’ ceremony will be held during Volunteer Week - May 10-17, 2009.
Elegibility for Entry
The Challenge is open to all residents of the Upper Ross area including community groups, schools, businesses and individuals who work or live in the Upper Ross Zone.
Participants can volunteer in the Upper Ross area or outside the local area, so long as they volunteer or reside in the zone they are eligible to entre.
Registration
Registration will be in two categories, as groups and/or individuals and can include a number of projects or one large project. Registered participants will receive a log book to record their hours and can download new log pages from the link at the top of this page (Microsoft Word format).

Residents, groups and schools are encouraged to nominate an individual or group who they feel is deserving and should be recognised for their volunteer service. Once a month (for the 6 months the challenge runs) a new community idol will be named and will be interviewed and presented within the local media.
Community Idol winners will be chosen from nominations received and will be decided by a panel made up from the reference group.

Post cards from the Upper Ross allows school students to create a post card size image of their view of the Upper Ross. The image can be drawn, painted, electronically created or photographed.
An exhibition of all post cards will be held during International Volunteers Week with the public able to vote for their 6 favourite post cards.
The 6 winning post cards will then be printed and placed around the community for use by residents.
The schools project is part of the Volunteer Challenge.
Training is being offered to Upper Ross community groups and organisations in areas such as volunteer recruitment and retention, volunteer management and grant writing.
.If groups in the Upper Ross area are looking for specific training they may request topics.
